Bulk Operations Guide

Managing multiple SSL certificates efficiently with SSLytics

Introduction

Managing SSL certificates for multiple domains can be challenging, especially for organizations with large web infrastructures. SSLytics provides powerful bulk operations features that allow you to efficiently manage, monitor, and analyze SSL certificates across hundreds or even thousands of domains. This guide will walk you through using these features effectively.

Prerequisites

  • A SSLytics Premium account
  • A list of domains you want to manage

Step 1: Bulk SSL Checking

The first step in managing multiple certificates is to check them all at once.

  1. Log in to your SSLytics account
  2. Navigate to the SSL Checker tab
  3. Click on "Bulk Check" to switch to the bulk checking interface
  4. Enter your domains in the text area, one domain per line
  5. Alternatively, click "Upload file" to upload a CSV or TXT file containing your domains
  6. Click "Check All Domains" to start the bulk check
  7. Wait for the check to complete (this may take some time depending on the number of domains)

Step 2: Organizing Domains with Groups

Once you've checked your domains, you can organize them into groups for easier management.

  1. Go to the Dashboard tab and select "Grouping"
  2. Create new groups by entering a group name and clicking "Add Group"
  3. Assign domains to groups by selecting a domain and choosing a group from the dropdown
  4. You can also use the bulk assignment feature:
    • Select multiple domains using the checkboxes
    • Click "Assign to Group" and select the target group

Step 3: Filtering and Sorting Results

With many domains, you'll need to filter and sort to find what you're looking for.

  1. Go to the Results tab
  2. Use the filter options to narrow down your results:
    • Filter by status (valid, expiring, expired)
    • Filter by grade (A+, A, B, C, D, F)
    • Filter by expiry date range
    • Filter by group
    • Search for specific domains or issuers
  3. Sort results by clicking on column headers:
    • Sort by domain name
    • Sort by expiry date
    • Sort by grade
    • Sort by last checked date

Step 4: Bulk Monitoring Setup

Set up monitoring for multiple domains at once.

  1. Go to the Monitoring tab
  2. Click "Bulk Monitoring Setup"
  3. Select the domains you want to monitor:
    • Select individual domains
    • Select all domains in a group
    • Select all domains
  4. Configure monitoring settings:
    • Check frequency
    • Alert thresholds
    • Notification channels
  5. Click "Apply to Selected" to apply the settings to all selected domains

Step 5: Bulk Export and Reporting

Generate reports and export data for multiple domains.

  1. Go to the Reports tab
  2. Select the domains to include in the report:
    • Select individual domains
    • Select all domains in a group
    • Select all domains
  3. Choose the report type:
    • Summary Report
    • Detailed Report
    • Compliance Report
  4. Configure report options
  5. Click "Generate Report"
  6. Export the report in your preferred format (PDF, CSV, JSON)

Step 6: Bulk Actions

Perform actions on multiple domains at once.

  1. Select the domains you want to act on
  2. Choose an action from the "Bulk Actions" dropdown:
    • Recheck Selected: Run a new SSL check on all selected domains
    • Delete Selected: Remove selected domains from your account
    • Export Selected: Export data for selected domains
    • Add to Group: Add selected domains to a group
    • Remove from Group: Remove selected domains from a group
  3. Confirm the action when prompted

Step 7: Scheduled Bulk Operations

Automate bulk operations with scheduling.

  1. Go to the Settings tab and select "Scheduled Tasks"
  2. Click "Add Task" to create a new scheduled task
  3. Configure the task:
    • Task Type: Bulk Check, Bulk Export, etc.
    • Domains: Select domains or groups
    • Schedule: Set frequency and time
    • Notification: Configure who gets notified when the task completes
  4. Save the task to activate it

Best Practices for Bulk Operations

  • Use Meaningful Group Names: Create a logical grouping structure (e.g., by department, environment, or purpose)
  • Regular Bulk Checks: Schedule weekly bulk checks to keep all data current
  • Prioritize by Expiration: Focus on certificates expiring soon
  • Standardize Monitoring: Apply consistent monitoring settings across similar domains
  • Export Regular Reports: Schedule monthly exports for record-keeping
  • Delegate Responsibility: Assign different groups to different team members

Troubleshooting Bulk Operations

If you encounter issues with bulk operations, here are some common problems and solutions:

  • Bulk Check Timeouts: Break very large domain lists into smaller batches
  • Rate Limiting: Spread out bulk operations to avoid hitting API rate limits
  • Export Size Limits: For very large exports, use filtering to create smaller, more focused exports
  • Performance Issues: Close other browser tabs and applications when running large bulk operations

Conclusion

By leveraging SSLytics' bulk operations features, you can efficiently manage SSL certificates across your entire infrastructure, saving time and reducing the risk of certificate-related outages or security issues.
